Gemma Atkinson has joked about her fiance Gorka Marquez’s saucy expectations when he returns home from Strictly Come Dancing.
The influencer, 38, often has to spend weeks apart from her professional dancer fiance, 33, while he spends time in London for Strictly each autumn.
And Gemma has joked about Gorka wanting her to wear lingerie when he returns to their home in Manchester after weeks apart.
Gemma cheekily quipped that while he might be hoping for some alone time, she is most looking forward to having a good night’s rest as he takes over childcare duties.
The mother has been looking after their newborn son Thiago, who she welcomed in July, and their daughter Mia, four, while Gorka has been busy with Strictly.
Speaking on Thursday’s episode of her podcast The Overshare, she joked: ‘My fella works away a lot and I often say to my producer Matt, “Gorka’s back on Thursday, I’ve not seen him for three weeks, he’s going to want the lingerie and all this”.
‘And all I want to do is get in bed and he will text me saying “Can’t wait for tonight” and I’m like, “oh God” because for me I can’t wait for tonight because it means you can get up and I can get some sleep.’
Gorka is the professional partner of Nikita Kanda on the 2023 series of Strictly, and they narrowly survived the dance off last week as Les Dennis and Nancy Xu were the first to go home.
He recently told how he considered quitting Strictly Come Dancing due to missing out on time with his newborn son Thiago.
Just days after the birth of his son, Gorka had to leave his family in Manchester to head to London to start rehearsals for the 2023 series of Strictly.
On their reality show Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind the Lens, an upset Gorka confessed: ‘It’s quite heartbreaking you know, to have to leave again a few days after Gemma gives birth and not be at home.
‘In my head, it makes me think I want to quit and just be at home for the next three months, but at the same time, I need to do my job and work.’
Gorka also told how he missed out on the early days with his daughter Mia, four, as well because the Strictly rehearsals clashed with the birth of his first child.
Elsewhere on her new podcast, Gemma told how she didn’t feel ready to settle down at the age of 30 and told of the expectations people put on her to get married.
She revealed: ‘As soon as I turned 30 every question was, “when you going to get married? When are you going to kids? Are you going to get a house together?”
‘Everything, when, when, when and I felt in no place mentally, spiritually, physically, emotionally. I felt no where near ready and had I settled at 30 because everyone said I should, I would now be divorced because it was with the wrong person.’
She first met Gorka on Strictly Come Dancing back in 2017 – when Gemma was 32 years old – and their friendship quickly blossomed into romance.
They then welcomed their first child – a daughter Mia – two years later in 2019 and got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2021, but have insisted they are in no rush to get married. They welcomed their second child, Thiago, back in July.
Gemma recently told how she ‘wasn’t even maternal’ until she met Gorka, with everything she had planned ‘going out the window’ after they got together.
On their show Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind the Lens, Gorka kicked off the conversation as he asked Gemma: ‘We’re a good team together. Do you think we are opposites?’
‘No, I don’t think so’, Gemma replied.
She continued: ‘Well when we had our first date, we had a chat about our favourite films, didn’t we? And you said The Notebook and I said Rambo: First Blood Part II!’
Adding of what she expected to happen in her life she said: ‘I never in my wildest dreams thought I would end up with a dancer.
‘And it’s not derogatory, because you’re a serious athlete. But I always thought I’d be with someone like John Rambo or something.
‘But when I met Gorka, I was like “Oh my god!”, and everything I had ever planned for myself went out the window.
‘I wasn’t even maternal until I met Gorka. And then I met him and I thought “Oh, I could have a family with this one!”‘
